United States of America (Press Release) August 8, 2008 --
Sites like Angie’s List and RateMD’s are trying to fill the need for individuals to easily find a service professional and feel confident that they made an informed choice. Unfortunately many of these sites are not so easy to navigate and some even charge their users to see ratings. There is one site though that is breaking these conventions and is quickly gaining in popularity.
Tinkn.com’s motto is “People Helping People”. The site is the result of a young couple’s frustration with trying to find daycares and doctors in Idaho for their three children. The site’s co-founder, Sean, explains their frustration. “After searching tons of sites on the internet and finally resorting to friends for recommendations, we felt there needed to be a better way.” It was then that Tinkn.com was born. “We wanted to build a site that quickly navigates to the best doctor, daycare, dentist in Idaho – whatever I’m looking for – and not have to sift through dozens of reviews.”
And they did just that.
Focusing on only those services that touch you and your loved ones, Tinkn.com provides a medium to find the service you’re looking for and to help others by sharing your own personal experiences. With its clean interface and easy-to-navigate features, you can quickly hone in on those service professionals that other users found to be the best in your area.
What makes this site stand out from the others is its unique rating system. You won’t see any 5-stars here. They developed a complex weighted rating system that incorporates an algorithm to calculate the ultimate score for a service. They look at three measures to come up with the score: (1) the numerical scores awarded by reviewers, (2) the number of reviews, and (3) the time since the last review. This scoring system ensures the highest ranking businesses are truly the most relevant.
And best of all it’s free. Tinkn.com is funded by businesses that pay to put enhanced features on their listings, not by charging users to view ratings and results.
“We just wouldn’t feel good about charging people to view the results,” Sean says. “We certainly could make more money by charging the end user but that would totally go against the reason we started the site in the first place. Our goal is to help others as they have helped us. That will never change.”

Recently there’s been a flurry of websites that make it very easy to do just that and in a very public way.
