Boston Tea Party endorses Phillies in Massachusetts, New Hampshire

The Boston Tea Party, America's new libertarian alternative, endorses a New England presidential ticket

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 9, 2008 -- America's new libertarian alternative now has a presidential standard-bearer in its namesake city. On Friday, the Boston Tea Party's national committee unanimously endorsed George Phillies, who appears as the Libertarian Party's candidate on the ballots of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Also endorsed is Phillies's running mate, Chris Bennett of Illinois.

"It would be strange indeed for our party to go without a candidate in the cradle state of the American Revolution or in the 'Live Free or Die' state," says Boston Tea Party chair Jim Davidson. "We nominated our national presidential slate too late to get it on the ballot in those states. Fortunately, George and Chris are well qualified to offer the voters of Massachusetts and New Hampshire a real libertarian alternative to the sad major party tickets."

Phillies unsuccessfully sought the Libertarian Party's national presidential nomination earlier this year, but had the benefit of already-ongoing ballot drives in those states, which don't allow "substitution" of another nominee. With the disintegrating Libertarian Party conducting a lackluster campaign on behalf of national nominee Bob Barr, Phillies chose to continue running an active effort of his own.

"Freedom-lovers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire will not be deprived of the opportunity to support a libertarian presidential ticket so long as I have the ability to offer them that opportunity," says Phillies, 61, of Worcester. He welcomes the endorsement of the Boston Tea Party, which already boasts one elected public official in Massachusetts: Billerica Town Meeting Representative Jim Casarjian-Perry.

The Boston Tea Party, which conducts its national operations entirely online and boasts affiliates in ten states, was founded in 2006. Its national presidential nominee, Charles Jay of Florida, will appear on the ballot in Colorado, Florida and Louisiana this November and is currently conducting ballot access drives in Tennessee and Alabama.
