Bogert International Inc. was awarded a BPA (Blanket Purchase Agreement) with the GSA (General Services Administration) for their patent pending tire replacement jack. They have shipped over 1000 units this year, doubling last year’s total sales. The current BPA is good through 2013. The Bogert Jack NSN#5120-01-546-9940 can be purchased on a Government Credit Card for singles or on a DD401348-6 Milstrip Requisition Form. The customer service phone number is 816-926-5121.
Richard Bogert, owner of Bogert Aviation and Head Engineer at Bogert International Inc. started working with the Army in July of 2006 to find a way for troops to change a tire on Up-Armored Humvee’s (HMMWV) deployed in the field. The HMMWV’s used by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have been so heavily armored that the original equipment jack no longer works to change tires or perform emergency repairs. The added weight, coupled with the unique suspension characteristics along with unstable soil conditions compound the problem. A solution was extremely high on the Army’s priority list, which was considered to be a critical need. Bogert’s design competed against numerous jack designs and large corporations but in the end—the Bogert design was proven to be the only solution for the HMMWV.
With an extensive background in aviation specialty tools and jacks, Bogert developed a patent pending jack that adjusts to the shifting load in dry & wet sand, mud, gravel, pavement and on slopes, lifting up to 17,200 pounds in just under 3 minutes. The jack is intended to be carried in the vehicle. Its compact size and weight make it deployable by one person. This allows troops to change a tire in the field quickly, quite possibly removing them from a hostel environment.
Bogert successfully tested their jack in Detroit for the Army – TACOM division and AM General at 17,200 lbs, for the current up-armor HMMWV’s. Efforts are being made to break through 20,000 lbs, which will make the Bogert Jack a suitable alternate choice for the MRAP and JLTV, (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) when the time arrives.
