Lung Cancer Telephone Support Group

The foundation has implemented another great feature to help those living with cancer. In the next couple of weeks the Liz Martocci Lung Cancer Foundation will be launching a telephone support system. This new program will work very similar to group therapy, however, members will be able to dial into a specific number on specific days and support one another. People diagnosed with cancer and their families face many challenges that may leave them feeling overwhelmed, afraid, and alone. This new support system will help people with any feeling, thoughts, fears or successes they may have. Support groups give people who are affected by similar diseases an opportunity to meet and discuss ways to cope with the illness. Having the support group over the telephone will allow almost anyone to join in, whether they dial from home, a soccer field or a hospital bed.

The support group isn't just sitting in a room talking about cancer. It's about making friends that can identify with your disease and help to cope. If you are experiencing major side effects from therapy and have difficulty leaving your home, telephone community is your first step in coping. You still maintain somewhat of your anonymity, which helps many become more candid about their feelings, fears, and frustrations. Plus, you can discover information and tips that you might not have been aware of about your disease.

The Liz Martocci Lung Cancer Foundation began on July 9, 2008 with one purpose in mind to help those faced with this horrible disease, living without insurance, find and receive the medical treatment they so deserve.
