Royal Oak, Mich. – Are you willing to gamble on a great cause? Join the Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit Young Adult Council on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 for a charity poker tournament.
Participants in the Gilda’s Charity Hold ‘Em Tournament will play one of the most popular card games, Texas Hold ‘Em poker. The cost to play is $50 per person. All ages and poker skill levels are welcome. Free appetizers will be provided. There will be a cash bar.
The tournament will be held from 6:30pm – 1am at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, located at 401 East 4th street in Royal Oak. Limited seating. Advanced registration is required by September 22, 2008. Register at gildasyac@gmail.com or (248) 577-0800 (Michelle).
All proceeds benefit the Young Adult Council (YAC), a network of young adult professionals dedicated to helping raise awareness and funds for the young adult program at Gilda’s Club.
“Young adults are one of the most underserved cancer populations in the country so there is a definite need in the community for an organization such as Gilda’s Club,” said Heather Hall, a YAC member and young adult cancer survivor. “Our goal is to raise awareness of and support the wonderful program they offer to young adult survivors and others.”
Targeting ages 18-40, the YAC also encourages greater involvement in volunteerism and philanthropy through networking and fundraising events, special educational programs and other opportunities. Since its inception in March 2008, the YAC has raised more than $3,500 for Gilda’s Club.
Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit is a free, non-residential cancer support community for men, women and children affected by cancer. The organization offers emotional and social support through programs such as support groups, educational programs, yoga, music and many other activities. Gilda’s Club currently includes 89 young adult cancer survivors and 146 young adult family members in its 6,000-plus membership.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008, Gilda’s Club was named in honor of the late comedian and former Detroiter, Gilda Radner. Visit www.gildasclubdetroit.org or call (248) 577-0800 for more information.
