Building a House Together workbook featured in New Home magazine

The magazine is a special interest publication of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

The three-page article by Justine Blanchard is an interview with authors Alice and Jared Massanari about their personal experience of building a house together, which led to the creation of the workbook. The article also includes an excerpt from the workbook that helps couples understand how to balance different styles of decision-making.

“It isn’t just the different styles, but learning to see that both are appropriate and valuable, instead of seeing one as stupid and silly and one as perfect. The issue is learning the style and appreciating what each one brings to the table,” Jared Massanari says in the article.

The interview also explores personal issues the Massanaris’ faced in their own relationship during the process and suggestions for couples on how to work professionally with a builder or architect. New Home magazine is available nationwide at home building supply stores, including Lowe’s and Home Depot.

The Massanaris, both licensed therapists, wrote Building a House Together after their homebuilding experience in 2006 to help other couples. The result is a short, easy-to-read workbook that provides tips for better communication, as well as worksheets and fun activities for the couple to create a successful partnership while creating a home together.
