“Raw Iraq” DVD Shows Real Combat via Soldier’s Helmet-Cam
(RELEASE DATE) August 24th,2008-- RawIraq, a new DVD, offers brutally real, rare and up-close combat footage from the Iraq War – shot with a tiny camera mounted on a U.S. soldier's helmet.
This unique point-of-view puts you inside an actual Army recon unit as they risk their lives conducting raids in hostile Iraqi neighborhoods, kicking in doors, subduing suspected terrorists and searching for weapons caches.
RawIraq was shot and narrated by decorated former Staff Sgt. Erik Roberts, while he acted as point man on many of these raids. "Whatever or whoever is behind this door... is in for a surprise -- or maybe I'm in for a surprise. So I kick the door in as hard as I can,” says Roberts during one of the missions.
"I can't even count how many raids I've done. I love the rush," says Roberts, whose unit was featured on CNN.com after surviving a 2006 Baghdad terrorist bombing. "Here are some moments I'll never forget, fighting for the country that I love and almost died for. Hell yeah, it was worth it, every drop of blood."
RawIraq DVD shows with extreme realism what patrolling the streets of Baghdad as an American soldier is really like.
Nervous Iraqi civilians clear the way as the armed soldiers move among the bodegas and traffic jams of dusty Baghdad.
"When I walk these streets, I stare in their eyes and I would bark, letting them know I will kill them if they mess with me," says Roberts. "Sometimes your mind will drift to home, wondering what your family and friends are doing at that moment, knowing they have no idea of the dangers you face and how different life has become."
Another gripping scene puts you inside a secret reconnaissance mission along the rooftops of ancient holy city of Samarra, with the now-destroyed Golden Mosque clearly visible on the skyline.
In one poignant moment, shot with eerie night-vision video, wild street dogs nearly kill a lone dog during a fight for mere scraps of food.
"I wanted to help him out, but I couldn't give my position away," says Roberts. "So all I could do was watch."
RawIraq also shows aspects of a war zone which are rarely seen in the traditional news media, including examples of good Iraqi families and children who welcomed and helped members of the recon unit.
This film includes violent and often bloody images and adult language that is not appropriate for children or immature viewers. It is a true-life, no-holds-barred video of real U.S. military action during the war of our times -- the U.S War on Terrorism.
