(September 25, 2008) The Chantry in Bunclody, Co Wexford is under new ownership, with Dave Lavelle, former owner of Gorey's Eco restaurant, taking over the reins.
“We’ve brought the same commitment to quality dining using local ingredients in an intimate setting and diners will also be able to choose some old Eco favourites from the menu,” said Dave, for whom the restaurant trade is a perfect blend of his background in catering and entertainment.
The Chantry is well known for its beautiful setting at the foot of the Blackstairs, complete with attractive gardens running alongside the River Slaney. “We’re hoping to build on the already wonderful reputation The Chantry has whilst opening it up to new clients. As well as opening seven days a week, we offer evening meals four nights a week – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday – where diners will be able to enjoy the surrounding art by local artists while enjoying our varied evening menu.”
Parents will be delighted not to be left out of the loop – children’s meals are free every Wednesday and Thursday from 5-7pm. “We appreciate how difficult it can be for parents to fit everything in, from school runs to dropping children off to after-school activities,” said Dave. “This offer makes it easy for parents to drop in with their children between five and seven in the evening, making sure everyone has a nutritious meal before the evening rush. It makes the evening less stressed for everyone.”
The Chantry was in the Kavanagh family for years and features stunning gardens, ideal for a relaxing glass of wine while you enjoy the surrounding ferns, rhododendrons, camellias, hydrengas, lilies and many other rare plants. “We’re open for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, early evening meals and dinner – and all in a beautiful setting,” said Dave.
