WHALER'S Creation -Foster Care and Adoption Walk 2008

WHERE : The Washington Monument (14th & Jefferson St., SW)
WHO : W.H.A.L.E.R.’s Creation together with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from the legendary group RUN-DMC, TaiMak (Leroy from The Last Dragon) and sponsors 93.9 WKYS, The Hard Rock Café and GNC.

WHY : November is National Adoption Month and W.H.A.L.E.R.’s Creation will jump start the month with a victory walk around the Washington Monument to celebrate every child that was adopted in 2008 and Walk for Hope on behalf of other youth waiting to be adopted. With this Walk we will also be able to help to raise funds for W.H.A.L.E.R's History on Stage and “Just Like Me” Magazine. Since 2004, as a result of the W.H.A.L.E.R's Creation History on Stage Program, over 200 foster/adopted youth have learned how to write, produce and perform plays based on the lives of successful former foster youth. While this is good progress, it is not good enough. We need your support to help us provide this opportunity to more youth in care. The “Just Like Me” magazine was recently launched in May. It promises to be the voice of foster youth in DC, MD and VA as it has been silenced for too long. This magazine will also keep Child Welfare Professionals in-tune with the feelings and thoughts of foster youth and give information on how those interested can get involved in a foster youth's life – whether through fostering, adopting or mentoring.
