FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 1, 2008 -- Cohasset, MA, October 2nd, 2008 - The Downtown Women's Club (www.downtownwomensclub.com), a professional network and career website for women, surveyed 800+ business women about important factors in choosing a national political candidate. Out of 15 general factors, the women selected the following as their most important and least important factors.

Top six factors businesswomen cited as extremely important* in lending their support to a national political candidate:

1. Economic policies – 66%
2. Social policies – 64%

3. Understanding of foreign policies – 61%
4. Authenticity – 60%
5. Education – 35%
6. Experience in government – 31%

Six factors businesswomen cited as not important* in lending their support to a national political candidate:

1. Race – 82%
2. Gender- 74%
3. Religion – 47%
4. Parental responsibilities – 47%
5. Their family – 31%
6. Age – 22%

*Respondents were asked to rank 15 factors as “not important, somewhat important, important, very important, extremely important.”

"I’m hoping that this survey will put to rest some of the idle chatter out there that most women vote with their mammary glands," says Downtown Women's Club CEO, Diane K. Danielson. “Working women are less concerned with Sarah Palin’s parenting responsibilities than economic, social and foreign policies.”

The Downtown Women’s Club also asked what respondents thought about the media reigniting the Mommy Wars via Sarah Palin and discovered that 83% of working women surveyed think it’s possible for a woman with young children to effectively work in a high-profile position.

“These are women who are holding down demanding positions, and many of them have young children or have raised children while doing so,” comments Danielson. “If they think it’s possible, that is another discussion that needs to be ended so we can focus on the substantive issues.”
