http://www.maripolooza.org/ "Maripolooza" is part of the Mariposa School's Take Flight Campaign(http://www.mariposaschool.org/takeflight.html) to help meet a $100,000 fundraising challenge by the founder of The Sunshine Lady Foundation, Doris Buffett. Buffett is the sister of billionaire Warren Buffett. To meet this challenge, the school has already held several events, including a kick-off picnic, a Mudcats baseball day and a yard sale.
The Sunshine Lady Foundation will donate $50,000 to the school if it can raise $100,000 by December 1, 2008. Buffett's $50,000 donation would be one of the largest single contributions in Mariposa's eight-year history. The funding will help support a much needed expansion of student programs including early intervention programs that are so vital for youngsters challenged by autism.
"This money will go a long way towards expanding the one-on-one programs that Mariposa students require to make progress," said Dr. Jacqueline Gottlieb, Mariposa's Head of School. "We thank Ms. Buffett, her foundation and our local community for recognizing the value of this type of intensive instruction for children with autism.
