AndAppStore.com launches offering to cater for free and paid-for Android applications

October 10, 2008

AndAppStore.com opens offering users RSS and Twitter feeds of new android application listings, and offering developers a place to get their applications publicised.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 10, 2008 -- AndAppStore.com, an alternative to Googles' Android Marketplace is taking submissions and offering T-Mobile G1 customers a method of seeing whats going to be available for their 'phone at the day of launch.

AndAppStore is already offering developers the ability to list free and paid-for applications, receive payments directly into their PayPal accounts without taking a cut and supports the recently released Veecheck update system for Android(www.veecheck.org), and allows users to receive notifications of new releases via their RSS feed readers and Twitter.

Developed by Al Sutton the site is being made available to address a need that Sutton sees with the current situation in relation to Android applications. "We're less than two weeks away from an Android launch in the US and at the moment there is a lot of uncertainty for developers in relation to getting their applications shown to users.".

When asked to expand on the reasons behind the uncertainty he explains "Details about the Google solution (Android Marketplace) is currently very thin on the ground and developers currently don't know the basics including how to get their apps listed. All that seems to be certain is whats been said in the Android developers blog; It will be in beta when the G1 launches, it won't handle pay-for apps until some point after launch, and it won't handle different versions of the same application, which can be important with newly released applications on an untested platform".

Recently Handango launched a paid-for service which, they claim, will have about 100 apps. Sutton points out that AndAppStore.com also caters for free applications and advises developers to look into Handangos charges when comparing the two. He also mentions that as Handango handle the developers payments any non-US developers may need to look into the tax implications as there may be an additional withholding of up to 30% due to IRS regulations.

Asked about the future of AndAppStore Sutton says it's a "Wait and see" situation, he continues "The Android Marketplace may develop into something which meets every developers needs, but given that history shows theres rarely a one size fits all solution I'm sure there will always be a place for AndAppStore in some form".
