Kandhamal violence manifested from ethnic strains

PM, said the disturbing aspect today is the assault on India’s composite culture and appealed to the political leadership to preserve the pluralistic framework of the country in the NIC meet.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 13, 2008 -- BJP-ruled states today raised their concern over non-inclusion of terrorism in the agenda of National Integration Council (NIC) meeting, they demanded stringent anti-terrorism laws across the country and said that only tough measures will produce desired results and control the terrorism activities across the nation.

On the other hand the Congress Party and UPA constituents tried to focus on the increasing comunalisation across the country and the riots that have rocked states after the state. It is notwithstanding the fact that the BJP seemed more focused in putting the blame at Manmohan Singh’s government for increasing terrorism across the nation.

"I am shocked to find that the issues of terrorism don't find any mention in the agenda, though it has direct bearing on the national integration," Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said while addressing the NIC meeting here.

His counterparts from Uttarakhand and Karnataka too dwelt upon terrorism in their address demanding a special law to be enacted to deal with the menace of terrorism effectively.

Chief Minister of Uttarakahnd B C Khanduri demanded a special law for terrorism.

"The Government of India should immediately enact a law in line with POTA and provide all institutional and infrastructural logistics and support to all state governments for the enactment and implementation of state laws in this regard," he said.

Suggesting to take a tough stand on Kandhamal violence, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik those who threaten our communal harmony, integrity and peaceful coexistence deserve very deterrent punishment. We should not be provoked to suspend or subvert a democratic process in the search for solutions,”
