Deadline Oct. 31 for "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Mission Viejo residents

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 13, 2008 -- Residents have – what could be – a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to ride on the City of Mission Viejo’s 2009 Rose Parade float. They could be seen by more than 40 million people nationwide and millions across the globe who will tune in to the 120th Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan.1, 2009.

The Tournament of Roses Committee selected the City to present a flower-bedecked float as part of Mission Viejo’s 20th Anniversary Celebration. The City’s float entry, “Making a Splash,” depicts life in Mission Viejo by showcasing community and recreational activities as “entertainment.” The community float coincides with the parade’s “Hats off to Entertainment” theme.

Youth and adult residents are sought to enter and win a chance to ride on the City’s float. The float will include members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores diving into roughly 10 tons of water as the float travels down the five-and-a-half mile Rose Parade route.
Mission Viejo youth will be selected representing youth baseball, soccer and softball. Adult residents will be selected representing golf, tennis and a veteran’s category.
The deadline to submit an entry to ride high atop the City’s float is Friday, Oct. 31.

The winners will be randomly selected at the City Council’s Nov. 3 meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 200 Civic Center. An informational meeting and introduction will follow on Monday, Nov. 17 for selected float riders. It will take place at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
