British Government Need To Promote Insulation Initiative

October 21, 2008

In September 2008 British Prime Minister Gordon Brown launched the home energy savings initiative however the uptake of the scheme has been extremely slow. So why have people not taken it up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 21, 2008 -- Back in September of this year British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown launched a home energy savings initiative to help home owners reduce energy costs. As a part of the programme the prime minister put a scheme in place that will help home owners pay for home insulation. This programme would come in the form of a grant and would give home owners insulation for either free or at least half price.

The initiative is of course one small part of the government’s efforts to reduce the country’s energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions. In preparation of a mass take up, a cool £3 billion was put aside however very few people actually took up the offer. In essence this is because very few people knew about it and how they would actually qualify for it. This has led to organisations such as WWF and other green campaigners to urge the government forward in a bid to promote the campaign effectively.

This is of course no small matter when you consider that £6.8 billion is wasted on energy every year.

So Who Qualifies?

This is where the government has failed to publicise its scheme properly as something is available to everyone. However the level of support is based on where you live and in some cases your personal circumstances. People are now being encouraged to contact their energy supplier or look on the Energy Saving Trust site to see what level of support and what type of insulation is available to them.

There are of course many different types of insulation which have different installation methods. The cheapest way is to use self install insulation whereas a more energy efficient and quicker form of insulation would be foam spray insulation. Whichever method people go for they should experience reduced energy and heating costs. This is one of the governments’ main aims of the initiative.

In the latter stages of 2008 the government aim to push this initiative forward and start driving its uptake nationally.
