ARLINGTON MAYOR PROCLAIMS NOVEMBER 1, 2008
LUNG CANCER AWARENESS DAY for
The DFW WALK FOR LUNGEVITY
Dallas / Fort Worth -- The DFW Walk for LUNGevity will kick off in Arlington, Texas at River Legacy Park at 9 a.m. on November 1, 2008 with proceeds from the event benefiting the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s leading private supporter of lung cancer research.
Arlington Mayor, Dr. Robert N. Cluck, declares November 1, LUNG CANCER AWARENESS DAY to exemplify the spirit of people affected by lung cancer- survivors, caregivers, friends, family, physicians, nurses, social workers and researchers throughout Texas.
There will be speakers and several organizations participating in the walk and in kind sponsors include the Dallas Stars, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Simon Properties, Genentech, Lance Armstrong Foundation, and Ambiance Relaxation Center.
Although lung cancer is the number one cancer killer – more than breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer combined – it receives a small fraction of research funding as compared to other cancers. Proceeds from DFW Walk for LUNGevity will support promising research for the treatment and cure of lung cancer at the top cancer centers in the country.
The DFW Walk for LUNGevity originated with Katie Brown of North Richland Hills. Ms. Brown is a patient advocate and consultant, who lost her father to the disease. Ms. Brown will also be awarded the Kay Barmore Volunteer of the Year award in Chicago on November 15, 2008.
The DFW Walk for LUNGevity is one of more than two dozen events taking place around the country this fall to benefit the LUNGevity Foundation and bring attention to the need for more research funding and Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Registration is 9am at the large pavilion at River Legacy Park. All registrants will receive their shirts, goody bags and giveaways from other participating organizations. To register, visit www.lungevity.org/dfwwalk or the event website at www.lcwalk.com You may also call 817-501-9313. For more information about LUNGevity, visit www.lungevity.org
