Everyday in the news we hear about Joe the Plumber (it turns out he's really not a plumber) and how he is concerned about the taxes he will have to pay if he buys a plumbing business for $250K. He has spent his time complaining about Obama's plan and has had his 15 minutes of fame. Well there are millions of average Joes in the world who are working hard, not complaining, and living the American Dream without fear of heavy taxation. One such man is Sam the Mechanic. He is not complaining, but he's leaving a legacy of hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit to his adult children. This spirit is helping them through these tough economic times.

For his 60th birthday Samuel Gregory, Sr. got a new laptop from his children, Samantha, Samuel, and Samala. They each contributed a portion to buy the gift he requested. Sam plans to use his laptop to venture into another business for his retirement years.

For the last 25 years Sam, Sr. has been a contract and freelance auto mechanic. He wanted more for his kids so he insisted that his children acquire education and critical thinking skills. With these two skills his children would be able to do more and be more than he did and became. His advice was heeded because now all three of his namesakes are now starting up their own businesses.

Samantha moonlights as freelance writer. She writes web copy, marketing collateral, and SEO articles. She is also a published author of the book 100 Secrets of Successful Single Motherhood. Samuel, II started a business with his fiancée Dawn. They run a wedding coordination business on the weekends. New Dawn is a full-service wedding coordination service that gives brides the wedding of their dreams on any budget. Samala has been a freelance grant writer for five years. She writes grants and provides consultation to individuals, community, and church organizations that are looking for government funding.

The current economic crisis drives many to complain and be fearful. But one father’s legacy has created three successful adults who are determining to weather the economic storm through entrepreneurship.
