FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 29, 2008 --
The Concerned Citizens of Mandeville is the grassroots organization behind an official recall petition filed with the Louisiana Secretary of State to recall the Mayor, Edward "Eddie' Price. Beginning Saturday November 1st at 12:00 noon at the Marina Gazebo on Jackson Street and Lakeshore Drive, a mass neighborhood canvassing effort will be launched to collect signatures door-to-door.
Mayor Price was sworn into his latest term in office in April of 2008 as information regarding his questionable behavior came to the forefront of the news. He will remain in office until 2012 unless removed by the very citizens who voted him into office. Approximately 3,000 signatures from registered voters within the city limits of Mandeville are needed by mid-February in order to qualify for a recall election.
Mayor Eddie Price is currently under state and federal investigation for his improper use of funding and the acceptance of lavish gifts from contractors doing business with the city as revealed in a State Audit issued on August 8, 2008. He was also reported to have accepted gifts paid for with monies from the Mandeville Citizens Fund which was solicited and described as "Toys for Tots." The audit noted that, in some cases, Mayor Price signed the checks clearly marked as “Mayor’s Gift” in the memo line.
He has also reportedly been involved in 2 drinking and driving incidents since 2006. The second incident involved him crashing through a blinking Causeway tollbooth barrier in his city-owned vehicle on April 22, 2008. This incident consequently ended with four police officers losing their jobs and the loss of his city vehicle privileges. Recent findings show that, since the removal of the vehicle, the Mayor is leasing a vehicle at well below market value from the owner of a construction firm who has had several properties annexed into the City of Mandeville.
Donations are now being accepted. Please make all checks payable to "Concerned Citizens of Mandeville."
