Tuition-Free College Prep High School at Cal Poly Pomona Seeks Students for Immediate Admission
Innovative college prep high school located on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona University is seeking 9th-11th graders for admission. Emphasis is on Project-Based-Learning and early college enrollment.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 29, 2008 --
Pomona, California – International Polytechnic (I-Poly) High School is currently seeking students with a college prep or honors background from all surrounding counties to apply for admission for grades 9th-11th for this and next school year. The school is located on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona University, and is open to students from all surrounding counties.
Recently awarded The Golden Bell in the category of “Innovation in High School” by the California School Board Association, I-Poly prides itself in teaching students through the Project-Based-Learning model. Students work on major projects each semester that are integrated into the curriculum. Projects are presented to the public at Cal Poly Pomona.
According to Principal Elsa Martinez, “The advantage that our students have is the ability to apply knowledge to real-life problems through projects”. These projects allow students to master necessary interpersonal communication, time management, and public speaking skills that can be used throughout a lifetime.
I-Poly encourages early college admission of its students. 60% of I-Poly students attend college while still in high school either at local community colleges through a special admit program, or at Cal Poly Pomona through “The Young Scholar Program”. The college courses that I-Poly students take while in high school satisfy general education requirements, and may be transferred to the college that they attend.
According to Principal Martinez, “Our latest API score was 802 and we always meet the No Child Left Behind requirements.” I-Poly is a fully accredited public college prep school that meets the UC A-G requirements. Over 90% of I-Poly graduates move on to higher education, and there is no tuition to attend. The school has approximately 500 students.
Applications are currently available for current 9-11th graders. Students who would enter fall 2009, may obtain an application at the Annual Recruitment Open House on November 20, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Eligible students will move on to an entrance exam. Spaces are limited, so early application is recommended. Information may be obtained at 909-869-2260.
