Unsigned songwriters now have a musical outlet this holiday season. The Song of the Year songwriting contest (www.songoftheyear.com) will be working with many radio stations. Their goal is to find new Christmas music from unsigned songwriters.
Program directors from across the country have agreed to review all holiday themed songs entered into the song writing contest for airplay consideration. Most stations do not accept unsolicited songs and will be working exclusively through the song competition. Last year there were over 120 upcoming songwriters who received airplay through this opportunity.
The Song of the Year songwriting contest (www.songoftheyear.com) has been a leader in the music industry since 1999. The organization has helped independent and unsigned
songwriters gain record and publishing deals around the world. The Songwriter's Association has rated Song of the Year as the number one resource for upcoming musicians in 2004, 2005, and 2008.
The company's success relies on their extensive network of music industry insiders. The judges of the song writing contest include many Grammy winning artists, editors from national music magazines, and radio programming directors.
Another perk the songwriting competition offers writer is sending out the top songs each month to their additional resources. These connections include the big four record labels as well as many independent record labels and publishers. They also have a wide array of resources with music managers, booking agents, and promoters.

A national music publisher explains "The contest is a dream for a publisher, record label, or radio station looking for that next hit song. It saves us time and staffing revenue since we do not have to go through 1,000's of songs each month ourselves. They do it for us! Song of the Year simply sends us the top fifty songs that placed in their monthly contest and forward us the best of the best. We then review those fifty songs knowing that if they placed in the contest then they are worth our consideration".
