Internet TV comes of Age

November 11, 2008

The Internet used to be a print media. It is switching to Internet TV. Someday cable TV may become irrelevant.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 11, 2008 -- British American.
News finds an “Inside Baseball” Computer Association, the DCIA in Santa Monica

“The P2P & Video Conference DCIA Special Event” (within “Digital Hollywood Fall”), on Oct. 27, 2008 at The Loews Hotel, Santa Monica, CA.

The D.C.I.A.’s own “Bonnie & Clyde”, Sari & Marty Lafferty.

Sari and Marty are the “hired guns” for the distributed computer industry via the “Distributed Computing Industry Association” (DCIA). However, even though the venue was only a few yards from the actual Western shoreline itself, the Western analogy has to be accommodated to the East Coast prospective given this dynamic couple’s roots, Maryland.

In this case, the “hired guns” hired themselves… to a job it is difficult to imagine could be done in a more productive way. And in a nutshell that job entails the ever changing, very vigorous forces that move the “distributed computer industry” as relentlessly against the marketplace as those waves that beat into the shore.

This event was an excellent manifestation of “Groupthink”… and as we can occasionally learn from our animal and insect co-habitants of this planet; when we communicate, we achieve far superior results.

One would be hard pressed to recollect an info-packed, one-day event that gave more to its enthusiastic participants. It surely deserved to be packed to the gills with people. Now, the validity of their brochure’s preamble can be fully understood stating, “…the must attend event for power players… Be an industry momentum leader”: With a modicum of application from the participant, that last phrase would not have been hyperbole. And if for some reason in the future they wanted to be a little “sub rosa” in the renaming of their organization, the title of “The Next Computing Power Players Assoc.” would never be challenged by any governmental or quasi-governmental agency.

The event was almost exclusively top-level execs pitching their own companies/ideas, then, taking on all sorts of insightful questions to help move the Industry on to bigger and better things. The level of energized exchange was often tremendous, such that some speakers sparked off discussions straight after their stage exit that had to be gently coerced into the hallway, so that the very full timetable should not be too adversely affected. All in good humor, a new speaker was occasionally seen to send out an emissary into the halls to persuade people to come in and hear the latest new news, or at least, “pipe-down a little bit”.

Luncheon was a most welcome change of pace, where an excellent buffet was located on two floors, enabling people the excuse of getting a little exercise as their “ideas & business card swapping” continued unabated, during a gentle clanking of china and silverware.

The five major sponsors that deserve special thanks are: Unlimited Media, Payment Solutions, CUGate, RightsFlo

The panelists were occasionally induced by some expert moderation to move their sometimes heated discussions away from the millions, if not billions, of dollars left on the table by various Intellectual Property issues of companies and countries, into the more “here and now” of Dollar opportunities for the future.

To state that, “this dynamic event was ably assisted by Karen Kaplowitz”, is an understatement. Her friendly but nonetheless incisive (even occasional whiz-bang) approach, and her 30 plus year experience were very evident.

The opening comments of guiding light and C.E.O. Marty Lafferty were invaluable. His most extensive & beneficial influences and hard work within the Industry are without doubt much appreciated across the board.

Incidentally after experiencing a full three days of the four-day “Mother-Event”, there can be nothing but admiration for the organizers and sponsors of Digital Hollywood Fall www.digitalhollywood.com to which the DCIA event was, of course, affiliated.

Here’s to next year’s much-anticipated Event !!!
