PATRICK YAU is First Hong Kong Chinese to Win International Award for Leadership!
In a victory for Hong Kong, Patrick Yau CEO, YCY Holdings Ltd becomes the first Hong Kong Chinese to be honoured by the Mediazone Group of Publications with the prestigious Decade of Dedication Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 11, 2008 --
The annual Award salutes exemplary companies and individuals that have made a notable contribution to industry and market and nominees are picked from more 2000 companies, across more than 30 different industries, geographically spread over more than 70 countries. The judging panel comprises the Mediazone Group of Editors in the Americas, Europe and Asia, Mediazone Research in Washington and London, the Publishers of the World’s First Newsroom in the Sky, and finally vetted by the Publisher’s Office of the Mediazone Group of Publication in Sydney, Australia.
Yau was nominated for his customer-friendly entrepreneurial approach to the marketing of audio-visual products in Hong Kong. His nomination was seconded by his peers, industry veterans and principals of leading consumer product brands, a rare accomplishment for any nominee from Hong Kong.
Aside from his long and impressive list of firsts that illuminate Yau’s contribution to industry and market, it was his recent first -- his “Recession Relief Response or RRR” that give him and YCY the extra edge in the race for selection.
His response to consumer grief as a result of the 2008 Global Financial Tsunami was indicative of his ability to feel the pain of his customers and that is a most admirable quality to find in an entrepreneur equally hit by financial loss.
Speaking to newsmen via video conference across the Atlantic, Mediazone Publishing’s Global CEO and President Glenn William Rogers said: “Today that capitalistic city of Hong Kong, that Pearl of the Orient has shown the world that beneath that cloud of glamour, glitz, pomp and show, live a people who are the very definition of resilience. Patrick Yau has come to symbolize the Chinese ‘together-we-can-do’ attitude and fortitude in the face of adversity.” He added: “In times of crises, it takes a very extraordinary individual to reach out to others without first caring for himself. Yau’s RRR programme aimed at getting Hong Kong to ‘get up and go, once again’ will not come without cost to himself but it was a choice he made for the greater good. Hong Kong should be so proud.”
“I am deeply humbled,” said Yau, upon receiving the news. “I have always held that our customer’s gain is our gain. Their pain is our pain. So I began the RRR programme across all our shops. We didn’t make a big deal of it. We just implemented it and the response has been phenomenal! The programme comprises a whole list of price cuts for services, installation, deliveries, extra goodies, huge savings off bulk purchases etc. We anticipate these give-a-ways will eat into our margins significantly but if that means we are remembered as the only AV supplier in Hong Kong to share the pain with our customers, there will be more meaning to the “Life” part of our name – AV Life.”
