As the much talked about credit crunch has a massive effect on the banking industry and the stock market, the effect on the ‘Real Economy’ has not been fully felt. Well it would seem that one South of England based business is starting to feel the effect but in a positive way. Business improvement company Succinct Solutions has seen a marked increase in inbound enquiries of businesses wanting support to improve and grow their business during these difficult times. This 73% increase over the last few months is, in the words of the managing director Christian Wenczka ‘just the tip of the iceberg’

Until a few months ago Succinct Solutions generated the majority of their new customers via referrals. ‘We would be successful helping a company improve or grow and their business owner or manager would refer us to another company, this was great organic growth’. However since the end of August inbound enquiries and requests for information have nearly doubled as some of the more in-control businesses can see that there are problems ahead and have called the experts in to prepare them for the real economic effect of the credit crunch.

The two most popular requests are for support on sales and marketing to maintain revenue and gain growth through the downturn and making companies more efficient so that they can cut costs and maintain margins. ‘This is a difficult time for businesses where the business environment has changed very quickly, we are working with lots of companies to add more value for their customers as well as ensuring they are running efficiently’

Traditionally, business improvement companies are a good gauge of the confidence of the business environment, both in the way that they get new customers and the type of work that they are doing with clients. Succinct Solutions associate in-debt recovery and insolvency has also seen a peak in demand but it’s the solving of the problems that seems to be the biggest growth. ‘Company directors are rightly proud of the business that they have built up over the good years and they are looking to support companies that can help though these changing times’

One of the most notable points is that it is the businesses in season-related industries and deposable income industries that have shown the most interest. These types of businesses are the first to feel the impact due to their customer type and forecasting cycles. ‘if things continue in the real economy then other business types will start to get in contact after Christmas as the realisation of the situation starts to take hold’

But it is not all doom and gloom.
