Bob Mackie - Designer Series

All costumes are constructed with rich velvets, soft silks and are adorned with real Swarovski crystals. The Jewel Essence Barbie dolls are priced in the range between $180 and $220 each. These Barbie dolls are collector items and are no longer available for purchase in the market according to barbiecollector.com.

- The 1990 Platinum Barbie is the third in this Mackie Series. Platinum Barbie wears a brocade coat and a fabulous platinum-white gown featuring over 8,000 hand-sewn sequins, beads, and crystals. Rhinestone drop ball earrings complete the sparkling ensemble. This doll’s value in the market can reach $275.

- The 1992 Neptune Fantasy Barbie is the fourth in this Bob Mackie series. By wearing a blue and green sequined velvet gown, Barbie mimics the splendor of the ocean. Her platinum blonde hair has a turquoise streak in it, and is accented with a turquoise sequined headpiece. This is the first doll in the Bob Mackie collection to feature closed mouth sculpting according to wowdolls.com. This is a very popular doll and its appraisal is at well over $450.

- The 1993 Masquerade Ball Barbie is fantasy at its best. Barbie is bewitching in her harlequin style gown embellished clusters of colorful beads. This Barbie doll features dangling crescent earrings and a beaded moonbeam drapes elegantly over her shoulder. This doll’s value in the market can be appraised at $475.

- The 1997 Madame Du Barbie features a theatrical flair, which is quite expected from the designer. This is the 10th doll of the series to be introduced and it captures the opulent elegance of the eighteenth century royal court of France. Her gown is a fine confection of jewel-embellished rococo embroidery blue brocade. The coiffure and headpiece are part of the appropriate glamour of many royal occasions. This doll’s value in the market is appraised at $250.

- The 1992 Empress Bride Barbie is the fifth doll in this Mackie Series. This Barbie’s dress not only has been sewn on her to ensure perfect fit, but the gown and headpiece are also entirely hand-beaded. To create this doll, Mackie used pearlescent and golden beads, iridescent sequins, and teardrop and bugle beads channeling a very high-end royalty look. Beautiful makeup, light blonde hair tied in a single sleek braid, the full-length fine netting veil flowing from her elegant tiara, diamond sparkly accessories, and a finely constructed bridal bouquet are what make this doll, to be considered by many, the ultimate bride doll in the Barbie Collectibles line, according to wowdolls.com.

Other dolls sure to catch the attention of collectors worldwide are the Special Edition Reproduction of the Original 1959 Barbie doll, 35th Anniversary Barbie produced in 1993, The Year 2000 Collector Edition Happy New Year Barbie, the 1995 Enchanted Evening Barbie, the Barbie in the Limelight by Byron Lars.

Lady Head Vases

Original lady head vases were widely used in the late 1940’s though the 1970’s for floral designs. The most desirable vases are those featuring realistic facial features, fancy hats, and sometimes a pearl necklace with matching dangling earrings. Mara Glasbrenners’s collection of lady vases is certainly one of the most valuable and attractive one in the auction market today. The vessels include names such as Enesco, Inarco, Rueben, Napco, Lefton, and Relpo. Several of these vases were made in Japan during the early 50’s and 60’s and measures between 5” to 7” tall. Also, Mara’s collection offers a handful of teenage and young girl vases, which are not quite as plentiful as the adult face ones. Such vases are known to attract serious collectors and could bring over $100 each.
