Laborers’ Union Leader LeConche Appointed By Governor Rell To Connecticut Employee Misclassification Advisory Board

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 17, 2008 -- (Hartford, CT) – Connecticut Laborers’ District Council announced today that Charles LeConche, business manager for the Connecticut Laborers’ District Council, has been appointed to the Connecticut Employee Misclassification Advisory Board by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell. Established July 1, 2008, the six-member Employee Misclassification Advisory Board will advise the joint enforcement commission on employee misclassification issues in the construction industry in the state.

“My appointment to the new Employee Misclassification Board exemplifies Governor Rell’s positive relationship between her administration and the labor industry. With the creation of this new joint enforcement commission and board, Connecticut is now on the right track to eliminate past employee misclassification problems by employers so proper federal and state taxes can be paid. I am looking forward to assisting state labor department officials, legislative members, the chief state’s attorney and attorney general in reviewing and helping to enforce our misclassification laws,” said LeConche.

On June 12, 2008, Public Act No. 08-156 “An Act Concerning Employee Misclassification” became effective on July 1, 2008 and states that recommendations and a report be produced on or before February 1, 2010 by the commission.

The Connecticut Laborers’ District Council, a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, represents approximately 8,000 members employed in the construction industry and other building and trade fields throughout the state. The Laborers’ International Union of North America, founded in 1903 largely by immigrant workers, includes more than 800,000 members who work in construction and hazardous materials remediation, as well as in healthcare, the U.S. Postal Service and other public service sectors of the economy.
