Craig Strachan winner of humorous speech contest.
Cape Town 25 November, 2008. Craig Strachan, was acknowledged as the funniest speaker in Cape Town at the annual Humour-hopabout contest, hosted by Tablebay Toastmasters Club on 24 November, 2008. The contest, which celebrates laughter and humour at it's best, is open to all members of Toastmasters in Cape Town.
Although the humour-hopabout is an unofficial contest, it has been running since 1980 and it always draws fierce competition, a large audience, and lots of laughter.
Craig, who is a member of Peninsula Toastmasters Club, currently runs the education portfolio for Toastmasters Southern Africa. He was thrilled to win the contest. "As as District Officer, I am usually ineligible for contests, so it is great to be able to enter this contest", he said. "I joined Toastmasters to be improve my public speaking skills, but I never expected to see myself winning a humour contest. This is proof of how effective the Toastmasters educational programme is."
In second was Mike Fawcett from Good Hope Club, and Roger Major of the host Club Table Bay came in third.
As the contest winner, Craig now has to chair the contest in November, 2009. Craig's winning speech can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zt5MGxbIQ8. Craig's home club, Peninsula Toastmasers Club, meet on the last Thursday of every month in the gardens. Details are at www.peninsulatoastmasters.info
