PRESS RELEASE - The Lover and Landscape
A Harold Pinter Double Bill
After the success of The Homecoming at The Crescent Theatre in October this year, Friction Theatre are back with a double helping of one act Harold Pinter plays. In the intimate space of the Old Joint Stock Theatre Graeme Braidwood directs The Lover and Kerry Murdock directs Landscape.
The Lover is about a middle class couple who live a secluded life in the middle of a respectable, small English town. The play explores the repercussions when dull domesticity and sexual fantasy collide. The Lover is performed by two local actors: James Allan and Chara Jackson-Allan who married this summer. James and Chara met in 2003 on the set of Hedda Gabler, a play in which they were both starring.
Landscape, one of Pinter’s rarely performed shorter plays, is about loss and longing and stands out as one of his most beautifully written pieces. A husband and wife sit at either end of a kitchen table in a great house that once employed them as servants. The building has fallen into disrepair, as though its owner has abandoned the place. Duff describes his day whilst Beth remembers a past liaison; together they survey the major moments of their relationship.
Colin Simmonds and Gillian Raegarth, (Duff and Beth in Landscape) are also well know local actors. Colin was last seen as Teddy in The Homecoming: his first Pinter role.
All student tickets are priced at a very affordable pre-Christmas rate of £5.
The play runs from 11th – 13th December, 8pm.
Tickets £10 (Concessions £8). To book tickets please call 0121 200 0946 or email: oldjointstocktheatre@fullers.co.uk
