Cheapest Vacations Available By Going Direct To Hotel Websites

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 30, 2008 -- Bangkok, Thailand , 30 November, 2008 – Despite record numbers of hotel comparison and reservation sites, many of which claim to offer huge discounts on room rates, Chateau de Bangkok has proved that it is still cheaper to book direct with your chosen hotel.

A review of room rates available through comparison and booking sites such as www.smartstays.com, www.otel.com, www.hotel-thailand.com, www.asiativ.com, www.hotels-and-bookings.com and www.hoteltravel.com revealed prices were a minimum of 20% cheaper when booked through the hotel's own website. This is despite at least one other website that claimed to guarantee the lowest available rates for the hotel.

Other hotel review sites made non-specific claims intended to draw customers in, such as 'Save up to 60%', 'Special Internet Rates', 'Up to 75% off', and 'Discount Reservation service'. In all cases, despite the fact that the advertising is technically not untrue, it was still cheaper to book through the hotel's own website.

For a given date, the rate available for a particular room at Chateau de Bangkok was around 2,800 TB. One website offered prices starting from around 3,500 TB, another offered 3,700 TB as their lowest price, while 3,900 was offered at another site. One booking site that did not offer prices in local currency gave US$100 as their best price, compared to a direct-to-hotel booking price of US$80.

In some cases, hotel comparison and booking sites stated that rooms were not available for particular days, when the hotel's own website and phone confirmation stated that they were. The hotel's marketing manager said that "It is sensible that the lowest room rates can be provided by Chateau de Bangkok itself, with no middleman to pay. We ask people to be wary of discounted rate claims, especially those that offer a lowest rate guarantee. The only true lowest price guarantee is on our own website!".
