Los Angeles, CA, December 1, 2008 – Celebrating its second anniversary the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF) will take place at The Landmark, Westside Pavilion, from March 12 - 15, 2009. An Opening Night Gala will kick-off the festival on March 12th at 6:00 p.m. with a red carpet event and a premiere film to be announced. After the screening, the festival will continue festivities with a cocktail party at the lounge.
LABRFF will showcase over 35 independent films and major studio releases from Brazil, combining the best of features, shorts, documentaries, animation shorts as well as tribute screenings, a celebrity-filled red carpet and more.
The festival will include a Special Tribute to Bahian Cinema and to one of the greatest Brazilian film directors, Glauber Rocha (1939-1981), who was a leader of the Cinema Novo movement that emerged in the 1960s. Glauber is most famous for his film trilogy, made up of “Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol” (Black God, White Devil, 1964) nominated for the Golden Palm in Cannes, “Terra em Transe” (Land in Anguish, 1967), and “O Dragão da Maldade Contra o Santo Guerreiro” (Antônio das Mortes, 1969), for which he received the award for Best Director at Cannes.

The Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF) is dedicated to showcasing the art and talent of Brazilian filmmakers in the most recognized home to the motion-picture industry in the world: Hollywood.
The company was established in 2007 and it was created to be the first genuinely Brazilian film festival in the California market.

LABRFF’s mission is to support and promote the exhibition of Brazilian films in Los Angeles. Dedicated to recognized and independent Brazilian filmmakers, LABRFF has created a bridge between Los Angeles and Brazil. LABRFF is expecting to attract over 8,000 attendees in 2009 that get together for 4 days of screenings, worldwide premieres, events, parties and industry meetings, opening a huge opportunity for businesses and promoting awareness of our culture to the community through the most powerful medium in the world: the cinema.
