Local Frisco fat loss expert BJ Bliffert, is the founder of the Look Great Naked Boot Camp, Frisco’s premier fitness boot camps for men and women. He has helped countless people prevent the holiday battle holiday weight gain \so many busy Americans deal with at this busy and stressful time of year.
Everybody knows how busy the holidays can be. But that’s no reason to let yourself get caught in the trap of not exercising to make more time for holiday errands or events. According to BJ Bliffert, it is a big mistake to risk losing the lean muscle, strength and endurance that you may have worked for months to build and maintain. He claims: “Losses in lean muscle mass will lower your resting metabolic rate, which accounts for the vast majority (about 60-75%) of your total daily calorie burning. This means that everyday you will be burning less and less calories which may allow those dreaded holiday pounds unwanted body fat to creep up on you. Before you know it you try on wear favorite jeans, but they seem to have shrunk. Really it’s the other way around!”
BJ Bliffert provides four quick down and dirty fitness tips to help you keep your body flab-free as this holiday season:
1.) Perform at least one intense strength training session per week
Studies show that one single strength workout per week during times when you cannot train as frequently or as you normally do is an effective way to reduce loss of strength halp maintain your current levels of strength and lean muscle mass.
2.) Try Mini Workouts
Look for hidden chunks of time during the day to get in a certain number of daily repetitions for a certain number of exercises that work your entire body (e.g. 10 push-ups, 10 squats, etc.). Using this method throughout the day will lead lot of reps by the end of the day that will burn nearly same amount of calories. Remember, this isn’t optimal, but it’s better than nothing. I use this method when my client load get too high and lack time.
3.) Don’t rely on machines
Machines have made us an incredibly out of shape, overweight and not to mention lazy society. Do your best this holiday season stay on your feet as much as possible and resist the temptation to let a machine do the work for you. Take the stairs, not the elevator.
4.) Get outdoors
Be it snowball fights, a friendly game of football, or whatever other winter activity floats your boat, get outside, have fun, and move with a purpose as much as possible.
