Arizona Cosmetology Students Take Two in Texas!

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 3, 2008 -- Two versions of Alice in Wonderland worked their magic for eight cosmetology students at the International Academy of Hair Design, 3350 N. Arizona Ave. in Chandler as they returned from Texas with second and third place honors in the recent Taking it to the Next Level Educational Forum in Fort Worth.

The team of Lyda Cervera, Julianne Clark, Tom Hlavin and model Megan Rogers captured second place for a “Who Are You?”, scene from Alice in Wonderland, and Sharon Braden, Fallon Honson, Paige Fisher and model Tammy O’Sullivan captured third for “Red Hot”, another version of Alice in Wonderland from the book Seeing Red.
The “Who Are You” entry included an Alice in Wonderland image where Alice grows so much her head, arms and legs stick outside of the house. In addition to Alice’s appearance, the cosmetology students recreated the house down to the smallest household details such as window shutters and teacups on a shelf.
The “Red Hot” entry was recreated from the book cover of “Seeing Red” with wild hair that appears to be on fire.

Both teams won in the Fantasy Team category. The Arizona students competed against future cosmetologists from nine beauty schools in Texas, including ITS Academy and Aladdin Beauty College; six schools in New Mexico and Oklahoma, including the Olympian University campuses and Aladdin Beauty College.
Cosmetology students from the Chandler school, as well as their sister school, International Academy of Hair Design, College of Hair & Aesthetics, 4812 S. Mill Ave. in Tempe, held a variety of fundraising events to help defray the cost for transportation and hotel accommodations for the trip. The students participated in car washes, haircut-a-thons, conducted raffles and even held a hair and fashion show to raise funds for the event.

“The students worked for several months to create these exciting entries,” said Jessica Wolman, one of the three owners of the cosmetology school. “This event was a perfect forum for them to display the skills they’ve learned in school, as well as show their dedication, creativity and ability to work as a team. We are proud of all of them.”
