Former Football Playing Father Writes Book to Ensure Son’s Success in Life
Author, international speaker and sales expert Bob Beck loves football not just because he played the game, but because football teaches life success strategies that he also taught his son.

Bob Beck learned a hard life lesson when he started college and dreamed of football fame. He was a football star in high school, but things changed when he went to college. “I was a football star surrounded by a team of other high school football stars.”
Realizing he would never be a great player, he went on to other pursuits, but football had taught him more than sportsmanship. Beck translated the lessons he learned on the field to what he calls the game that happens every day--the 5th Quarter. He even used the success principles of football to raise himself from living on welfare to becoming an international sales expert, speaker and author.
“All sports teach life success principles,” he said,” but football happens to teach all of them.” His new book Winning in the 5th Quarter: Apply the Secrets of Football to your Life-Strategy Playbook “is the first book to connect the dots between the sport of football and real life.” His website is www.WinningQ5.com
Beck’s son Robbie, who has played football since he was six years old, told him he wanted to go for a Division 1 Football Scholarship. The high school Junior dedicated himself “like I’ve never seen anyone dedicate himself to anything.” However, Beck knew that not every player can be the best. “Not every player can be the next football all-star. I wanted to be sure Robbie understood what the game was really about.”
Robbie had coaches throughout his youth because of football, but once his football days are over, Beck said he did not want his son to experience what so many professional players do.
“Coach Ken Hatfield told me about a study that the NFL did of players four years after leaving the league. 87 per cent were either bankrupt, divorced, or having trouble with drugs.” Beck attributes this statistic to the sudden absence of a coach. There are no more cheering crowds and no coaches to tell you what to eat, what to do and when to do it anymore.” Winning in the 5th Quarter fills this gap.
Originally, Beck wrote the book simply because he wanted to share football’s success secrets with his son Robbie, “but then I realized how many other kids and coaches and players need this message”.
Now he shares his legacy with football players and their families so that they can win the real game of life. Through the book, Workshops, life coaching, and other projects, Beck said, “My goal in life is to reach out to as many players, coaches, parents, and people as possible to share my experiences and help them and their families realize their dreams.”
