China Benzene Market Report, 2008

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 8, 2008 -- Production capacity of benzene in China was only 1.64 million tons in 1998, but the figure has increased to 4.3 million tons in 2007. Meanwhile, the output of benzene increased by 12.43% from 1.34 million tons in 1998 to 4.06 million tons in 2007. The operating rate of benzene maintained at 80% during 1998 to 2007.

In China, the overall benzene consumption percentage of styrene was 53.33% in 2007, caused by the constant increasing demand on styrene by PS and ABS resin, which has also stimulated the consumption of benzene. However, ethylene manufacturers are now under the pressure decreasing market demand due to the global financial crisis, plus the fast growing newly added production capacity in 2008, China benzene market will probably have the risk of over-supply in the next few years.
