Las Vegas, Nevada – On Thursday, December 18, Kid to Kids, a flagship program of Spread the Word Nevada, Inc. will adopt Elbert Edwards Elementary School, located at 4551 Diamond Head, Las Vegas 89110, in order to support literacy efforts and promote reading. This will be the seventeenth school adopted by Kids to Kids, a children’s literacy program serving at-risk children in southern Nevada and students in the Clark County School District. Laurie Porter-Hartig, former elementary school librarian, founded Spread the Word Nevada in 2001.
Napoleon McCallum with The Venetian Foundation will deliver a special message to over 800 students during the adoption kick-off ceremony at Elbert Edwards Elementary School. McCallum is a former U.S. Navy star running back and NFL player for the Los Angeles Raiders. After the surprise visit, students will receive a canvas bag and have the opportunity to choose five books to start their home libraries.
