Website uses swimsuit models to support Open Source and Creative Commons

December 11, 2008

Site has people unpeel pixels off of a covered image to expose a swimsuit model. When the image is 100% uncovered the gallery will be released under a Creative Commons with 10% donated to open source

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 11, 2008 -- Portland, Ore, Dec 11th, 2008 - Pixel Peel (www.pixelpeel.com) is a new website offering images of beautiful swimsuit models in gorgeous natural settings. People can buy “pixel blocks” of a covered image that are then “peeled” off to expose the main image. Once the full image is uncovered it unlocks the gallery for that model that can contain anywhere from 10 to 20 high-res images.

The idea is a reversal of the “Million Dollar Home Page” (“MDHP”) created by Alex Tew. Mr. Tew had a large image in which he sold individual pixels to advertisers. With Pixel Peel, an image is hidden from view. People may then buy as many pixel blocks as they like to gradually expose this image and unlock the gallery. Like the MDHP, buyers are given the opportunity to advertise on the image page(s) they sponsor. This is in the form of either plain text or image ad beneath the image itself as well as their ad showing up when a user hovers his or her mouse over the exposed pixel blocks.

The sponsor’s primary goal is to raise funds to purchase a piece of property so that his family can live self-sustainably. In addition, the site will give back to the community. It is designed entirely in, and is powered by, open-source software. A donation of 10% of all profits will be made to open-source projects. Additionally, all the source of the website will be released as open-source once the sponsor’s goals are achieved.. Finally, after an image is uncovered, all the images will be released under a “Creative Commons Share Alike” license. This way, anyone can do anything he or she likes with the images, commercially or otherwise, without fear of violating copyright license, as long as they agree to give that same freedom to others.

Pixel blocks can either be purchased via credit card through Google Checkout or can be obtained for free by responding to trial offers through Trialpay (www.trialpay.com). All those who buy pixels will receive a link to download all the images in the gallery at higher resolution than those published on the site (5MP+.) The top 10 buyers (those who buy the most pixel blocks) will also receive a DVD with all the best images from the photo shoot for that model. These DVDs contain at least 50 images.

There are currently four models available to uncover and no galleries are complete yet. The site promises to add more models (and thereby more images) as more pixel blocks get sold. The models currently available are all from the Portland, Oregon area. The images were taken from locations in the Portland area, namely Latourelle Falls and Eagle Fern Park.
