Western Washington Pro Chapter of SPJ Announces 2008 Excellence in Journalism Contests
The Western Washington Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and Scott Maben, regional director for Region 10 nnounced its annual Excellence in Journalism contests today.

The Western Washington Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) announced its annual Excellence in Journalism contest today. The local chapter of the SPJ holds the contest every year to honor outstanding journalism in Magazines and Nondaily newspapers in 29 categories, including the General Excellence award. This year’s contest will honor outstanding journalism produced, published or presented during 2008 at its May 30, 2009 banquet at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.

Journalists do not have to be members of SPJ to participate, but SPJ members receive discounted entry fees. Proceeds from the banquet will fund journalism scholarships for Washington college students.
Scott Maben, Regional Director for SPJ’s Region 10, also unveiled its 2008 Excellence in Journalism contest today. Region 10, which serves Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, holds its annual contest to award outstanding journalism in TV, radio, online, alternative newsweeklies and daily newspapers.
