HD Web Series Launches from Emerging Artist Productions; Off-Broadway revealed in EXIT Stage Left.

EXIT Stage Left (www.lowrytheatercompany.com) tells the story of an off-Broadway theatre troupe and the issues faced while staging the new play, A Wonderful World. Set in NYC, the new web series, produced in high definition with a cast of theater professionals, harkens back to the Neil Simon plays of the 70's and 80's and films like the Academy Award winning, The Goodbye Girl. The backstage antics reveal the story from auditions to opening night. Billed as a Web Series of Theatrical Proportions, EXIT Stage Left is a comedy with dramatic elements and plays to the truths of actual stage production. “We have been asked repeatedly if The Lowry Theater is a real working stage company, which is possibly the highest compliment someone can pay us,” says series creator, Sinohui Hinojosa.

Produced by Bernard Fok and Thomas A Koch for Emerging Artist Productions, the show is shot entirely in San Francisco with local cast and crew. Utilizing three Panasonic HVX200 cameras and shooting in HD 720p format, the show is shot in a single camera style that captures the unique energy of both scripted elements and improvisational performances, which flavor the show with a style reminiscent of the films of Christopher Guest. The cast all delivered their audition sides by describing (in-character) a little bit about themselves, highlighting their ability to ad-lib within a scene and continuously deliver new ideas and concepts that further bring their characters to life, for this independent new media project.

“The internet has changed the way entertainment is brought into the home,” says producer Bernard Fok, “so by producing a web series with high production values, we are able to present a realistic alternative to network television; plus with platforms like Blip.tv and iTunes we can be screened on more than just a desktop computer, with networked home systems the future of on-demand entertainment is finally here.”

Leading the ensemble of eleven actors, Michael Navarra, Steve Budd and Annamarie MacLeod are currently shooting the roster of 13 first season episodes, with new releases coming out on the 10th and 25th of each month (the first episode premiered on December 25th, 2008). As part of the ancillary content in support of the show, the producers have crafted side stories as told through the eyes of Pam William (as played by Katie Kimball), a documentary filmmaker attending NYU and blogging about her interactions with the fictional Lowry Theater Company (http://pamwilliamsnyu.blogspot.com/), these include in-character video blogs combined with real-life filmmaking tips (as written by Hinojosa). “The opportunity to explore additional background development, not part of the main story, but in support of it, lends the world of EXIT Stage Left an edge over competing web-based programming”, says Hinojosa, “each character within the show is real, or at least truthful to who they are, and we will continue to add additional content to support that reality over the course of the show.”
