Countertop Company in Virginia Investing Heavily In The Future
Major upgrades in facility, equipment and management staff position Granite Source as the leader in commercial and residential countertop production in Virginia
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 12, 2009 --
Nicholas Draper, president of Granite Source, Inc., has taken bold measures in recent months to invest in obtaining expensive, cutting-edge, time-saving equipment; new management staff; and larger quarters to position the company as the leader in commercial and residential countertop production in Virginia. This fall, Draper spent five million dollars acquiring:
§ New quarters: The headquarters has been moved to a new, 30,000 sf facility at 14554 Lee Road in Chantilly, housing a much larger warehouse, fabrication work area and showroom than the previous address. Build out is nearly complete.
§ More “green” products in expanded inventory: More choices of eco-friendly products - featuring recycled paper, glass, etc. have been added to the line of “green” choices. Some offer as many as six LEED credits. Granite Source is dedicated to an eco-friendly fabrication process, which alone will enable builders to qualify for such coveted credits..
§ Cutting machine that combines three technologies: This fantastically expensive machine is an industry newcomer - produced by Park Industries. It is able to significantly reduce the time it takes for cutting stone slabs into detailed counter tops. Using this one machine, one can use a diamond saw like a bridge saw for the straight cuts, a water jet for detail work, and a completely digitalized management system (CNC).
§ Computer-aided digital (CAD) technology for producing countertop templates has been adopted – to increase accuracy and facilitate on-time installations.
§ Pathfinder Synergy Suite of software (Park Industries) has been added for live, digitally-imaged inventory of all stone slabs and remnants plus tracking. And the templating file automatically lays out the pieces of the client’s kitchen on the slab in real time. It allows for moving the pieces around and matching up seams in numerous configurations. The client can see how the countertop will look and be able to digitally approve.
§ FastBack Edge Polisher: A quantum leap in technology, this machine speeds turnaround time by performing final-finishing of countertop and backsplash edges, formerly done by hand.
The management team has been expanded to include two industry veterans - Mike Kostello and Doug Wood. Wood, with more than 20 years experience in managing production and field work, is managing the operation of the Chantilly headquarters. Formerly with NV Homes, Kostello is now Granite Source’s operations manager overseeing production shops in Ashland (Richmond metro area) and Baltimore.
Maintains Draper, “Although presently Granite Source is already the largest volume producer in Virginia, we believe these upgrades in facility and equipment will make us the clear leader in delivering high volume work under budget and on time. I look forward to an incredibly flexible future.”
