New Orleans, LA – January 14, 2009. Painter Haitham Eid is participating in the 11th Annual Invitational Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibit for the second time in a row at The New Orleans African American Museum of Art, Culture and History (NOAAM) at 1418 Gov. Nicholls Street, New Orleans, LA 70116 from January 19 to March 14, 2009. Opening reception is on January 19th from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

Eid’s contribution to the exhibit this year is two paintings “Creation” and “Power”. Although acrylic paint and canvas are the medium of both paintings, different techniques were used to create each artwork demonstrating Eid’s artistic flexibility. According to Eid, the subject matter and the inspirational environment at the time of conception dictate which techniques are best suited to express his vision. “Creation” consists of two pieces. The first one is 49” x 43” and the second piece is 49” x 15”. “Power” is a 39” x 26” in size.

Haitham Eid is a contemporary Egyptian artist based in New Orleans. He was granted the 2007 BW Fellowship Award from the Association of African American Museums (AAAM). He received proclamation and appreciation letters from Ray Nagin, Mayor of New Orleans, City Council of New Orleans, Tulane University, Southern University at New Orleans and many other institutions for his artistic achievements. Eid said “The artist is the neuron and the heart of his community. He is the first one to feel the pain, danger, love and kindness. He has been given the talent to illustrate people’s hope and ambition. The artist creates art not only for enjoyment but also for education, documentation, raising questions and awareness".

The 11th Annual Invitational Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Art Exhibit “Facing the Challenge of a New Age” is sponsored by The National Conference of Artists.
