Confused about color? I personally cannot count the number of times I have had a client, friend or family member ask me for assistance in choosing colors. For many people, selecting colors for their home or business can be an overwhelming task. Trying to find the right colors with just the right tones and choosing where to put the color may seem impossible. By hiring a professional like myself, you can put your worries aside.
Using a color scheme is a good way to ensure all of the colors in your space coincides. For more permanent items in the space such as millwork, furniture or flooring, don’t worry too much about which colors are the “it” colors of the season. Instead select colors and textures that work with your lifestyle or vision. Leave the “it” colors for less permanent items like paint on feature walls or smaller less expensive décor items.
There are four popular color schemes developed from the color wheel: monochromatic, analogous, complementary and triad.
When ensuring all of your colors work well together, gather all of your sample materials and assess, ensuring they follow one of the four color schemes and the tones work in all lighting. Paint should be one of the last selections made in a new build or renovation.
Once you have a paint color and sheen selected the best thing to do is purchase a small container of sample paint. Paint a few areas of the walls you are considering painting and look at the paint color and all other materials in various lighting and at various times of the day to be sure the color is what you want. Spending the few extra dollars on sample paint will ensure you have made the correct decision.
Adding color to your space is an easy way to liven it up. We live in an inspirational world full of color. Experiment with colors on feature walls and in accessories, as these are the easiest and least expensive items to change. Leave neutrals for the more permanent investments such as cabinets and flooring. This way if you decide the color is not right for you or you want a change, it is as easy as re-painting or purchasing new accessories. Always make sure the colors you pick appeal to you, since you will be the one enjoying the space the most.
Maybe a major renovation isn’t in your near future, but choosing key colors and designer materials may be what you need for an interior facelift. Studio 2.0 has a wide selection of designer fabrics perfect for a drapery or upholstery project, as well as print and photographic art available ready for hanging. When choosing a color for your art, décor items or a new paint color, my advice is to try something new.
