Confused about color? I personally cannot count the number of times I have had a client, friend or family member ask me for assistance in choosing colors. For many people, selecting colors for their home or business can be an overwhelming task. Trying to find the right colors with just the right tones and choosing where to put the color may seem impossible. By hiring a professional like myself, you can put your worries aside.
Using a color scheme is a good way to ensure all of the colors in your space coincides. For more permanent items in the space such as millwork, furniture or flooring, don’t worry too much about which colors are the “it” colors of the season. Instead select colors and textures that work with your lifestyle or vision. Leave the “it” colors for less permanent items like paint on feature walls or smaller less expensive décor items.
Painting a feature wall with a dominant color can add diversity and excitement to a room. The best wall to make into a feature is the wall that you want the most focus on, in other words the wall you want the eye to be drawn to. It can be a wall with a fireplace, the wall behind your headboard or the wall behind a reception desk. The feature wall will be one of the first things noticed when entering a space, so steer away from walls with elements you do not want to draw attention to, such as doorways into private rooms, or walls that complete with other features in the room.
Another way to add a slash of color along with a pattern or texture to a wall, is utilizing some of the amazing wallpaper options available. However you decide to make your feature wall unique, ensure all of the colors in the space work well together.
Adding color to your space is an easy way to liven it up. We live in an inspirational world full of color. Experiment with colors on feature walls and in accessories, as these are the easiest and least expensive items to change. Leave neutrals for the more permanent investments such as cabinets and flooring. This way if you decide the color is not right for you or you want a change, it is as easy as re-painting or purchasing new accessories. Always make sure the colors you pick appeal to you, since you will be the one enjoying the space the most.
