Twitter.com is a social networking site with a base of over 4.5 million users worldwide. Twestival, the brainchild of a handful of twitter.com users, debuted in London in September, 2008. Intended to be a local networking affair where attendees could meet their contemporaries behind twitter avatars while also doing it’s bit for charity, it has evolved into much more.

On Feb. 12, 2009, Twestival goes global. Participants will gather in over 105 cities all over the world, joining forces to raise money for CharityWater.org, a nonprofit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Real people, real time, real power to make a difference.

The San Francisco event will take place at harlot, 46 Minna St., on Feb 12 at 6pm. All proceeds are to benefit CharityWater which gives 100 percent of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need.

Twestival ambition in harnessing the power of social media does not end with event attendees. The events taking place in major cities including San Francisco will be broadcast live online at www.twestival.com so that individuals may participate even if they can’t attend an event in person. While they watch they will be able to donate online, bid for prizes, win giveaways and communicate with the people at the events via video messaging, voice messaging and test messaging to www.twitter.com.

Twestival will be powered by the influence that individuals have within their own online communities to work together for a common cause and will be in all respects a globally interactive event.
