Birthday parties can be overwhelming to begin with. You have the invitation list. Do you invite family OR friends, OR both? Then you have to decide on the date. Some birthdays just fall at inconvenient times. For example, the day after Christmas.
Then there's the question of what will you do with 20 children in your house, yard or catering hall? You think to yourself, "I'll hire an entertainer". But who?
There are so many entertainers out there. It's difficult to decide who would be best for your child and his or her friends. The internet gives us an overabundance of choices. Here are some things to think about when choosing an entertainer for your event.
Before making those phone calls, you are going to need some basic information:
* The theme of your party.
* Number of guests you expect. This number may change closer to the event, but an estimate would be fine.
* The age range of your guests.
* The place of the event, for example, your home or catering hall.Have the address at hand.
* The type of talent you want. Perhaps the entertainer is multi-talented and can offer face painting AND balloons AND magic. They may have the costume of your child's favorite character.
* Your credit card. Some entertainers will require a credit card to hold the date. If you decide to wait, you may have lost that entertainer to the next person who calls them and has their card handy.
Here are some things to listen for when speaking to the prospective entertainer:
* Do they sound kind, patient and attentive?
* Do they take the time to ask about your child? Age of your child? His or her name? Party theme?
* Do they give you details as to what they offer?
* Do they have a certain order for their entertainment? This indicates they are experienced.
* Do they do have more than one talent? You may have someone with a bundle of talent.
* Do they have children of their own?
* Do they have a website where you can see some of their work?
* Does their website have any testimonials from other parties?
* Do they wear clown make-up? Some children are skittish and won't feel comfortable around a clown with full make-up.
* Do they offer to call you the day before to be sure everything is a "go" for the party?
