FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 27, 2009 -- During a trying economy, having the right people on board as well as finding the best professional opportunities are of the utmost importance to nonprofit leaders, according to the current issue of “Leadership Matters,” published by the Bridgespan Group’s Bridgestar initiative, which is dedicated to attracting, connecting, and supporting leadership for the sector.

The January issue features a Q&A, “Recruiting and Job Hunting in Tough Economic Times,” with Bridgespan Group Partner Wayne Luke, head of executive search, in which Luke shares insights based on Bridgespan’s extensive executive search work with nonprofit organizations. Additionally, the issue includes “Fulfill the Dream of Leading a Nonprofit,” a reprint from the January 2009 Harvard Business Review article co-authored by David Simms, Bridgespan partner and head of Bridgestar, and Luke that addresses strategies to help corporate executives make the transition to nonprofit leadership careers. “Fulfill the Dream” also calls on employers to create more programs that help executives “bridge” into nonprofits.

“For leaders, the ability to combine passion for the organization with management skills is essential for organizational health in any economy,” said Simms. “During challenging economic times when nonprofit organizations may need to work harder to accomplish their goals, strong leadership takes on even greater significance. Organizations must have the right leaders in place, yet during these times it becomes more challenging for candidates seeking leadership positions. ‘Leadership Matters’ provides advice on these challenges to help nonprofit organizations find and hire talented leaders and managers, and skilled candidates find the right opportunity.”

Each month, Bridgestar’s newsletter, “Leadership Matters,” focuses on a nonprofit leadership career- or recruiting-related theme. Available to Bridgestar’s more than 46,000 members (or, for a complimentary subscription, please email subscribe@bridgestar.org), “Leadership Matters” is part of a robust portfolio of offerings that includes a free job board listing more than 200 nonprofit management and leadership positions across a range of service areas including the environment, human services, elder services, human rights, and youth services.
