http://www.nysec.org Stand Up for Peace began in 2002 as a series of benefit shows for Seeds of Peace. Since then, this dynamic duo has performed more than 75 shows at colleges, theatres, Jewish and Arab Community Centers and Temples across the United States.
According to Mr. Blakeman and Mr. Obeidallah, “Stand Up for Peace is first and foremost a comedy show, one that offers smart, thoughtful humor about our families, ethnic and religious backgrounds, as well as our progressive political humor. And most importantly, this kind of humor offers hope—because if you could hear peace, it would sound like laughter.”
The show begins at 8pm at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street @ Central Park West. Tickets are available at the door and are $15 for NYSEC members; $20 for non-members. Ticket includes two drinks (beer, wine or soda). Proceeds benefit the New York Society for Ethical Culture.
For ticket information, the public should contact Moe-Swe Myint at 212-874-5210×113.
The New York Society for Ethical Culture (NYSEC) is the cornerstone of a humanist and ethical movement that was founded in 1876 to advance social justice for all. Ethical Culture emphasizes principles of behavior based on expressing one’s conscience through moral and humane actions. We place our faith in the demonstrated capacity of people to do good and we believe in the worth and dignity of all living beings. Some of the organizations we founded or helped establish include the Legal Aid Society; the NAACP; the ACLU; the Visiting Nurse Service; the first free kindergarten in America; and the First US settlement house. NYSEC is housed in a landmark building on Central Park West that will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in 2010. The building is home to hundreds of public programs a year including panel discussions on key social issues, concerts, theatrical events, town meetings, and writing, music and art workshops.
