Local San Diego primary care sports medicine physician John M. Martinez, M.D. is one of four sports medicine doctors nationwide selected to be a member of the USA Triathlon medical staff.

Martinez, M.D. is one of four sports medicine doctors nationwide selected to be a member of the USA Triathlon medical staff. The medical team selections were announced by USA Triathlon Medical Director Andrew Hunt, M.D. this week.

The elite team medical staff will be providing medical care and support to the elite and professional US triathletes racing on the ITU World Championship Series this year. The medical staff will provide on-site medical support at all ITU elite triathlon events both in the US and internationally including the ITU World Championships in Gold Coast, Australia and the US National Elite Championships in Alabama.

Currently, Dr. Martinez has been selected to travel with the USA triathlon elite team to Madrid, Spain and Kitzbuhel, Austria.

Dr Martinez is a San Diego board-certified family and sports medicine physician and is medical director of Coastal Sports and Wellness Medical Center in San Diego. He is also medical director of the Carlsbad Marathon, the local medical coordinator for AVP Pro Beach Volleyball in San Diego and a member of the medical staff for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. He is an avid triathletes and cyclist, having competed in 6 Ironman triathlons and lives in San Diego with his wife.

Coastal Sports and Wellness Medical Center is a comprehensive family and sports medicine facility located in Sorrento Valley and Carmel Valley area of San Diego. The Medical Center includes family medicine, sports medicine, physical therapy, massage therapy, an indoor cycling center, personal training and fitness boot camps.
