First High School Education Grant Goes To 12 Year Old Girl From YouMe Support Foundation In Vanuat
First girl receives a high school education grant from YouMe Support Foundation, in Vanuatu. Without this she would never have the opportunity to go to high school.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 28, 2009 --
The first student to receive YouMe Support Foundation's high school education grant is a twelve year old girl. Maimona has an older brother and sister and one younger sister.
Only 18% of students get to go to high school, because there is no free education system in Vanuatu. Maimona's older sister remains at home, without qualifications, or the prospect of getting any employment. Her parents were unable to find the money for her to go to high school.
Maimona's family managed to scrape enough money together to put the only son in the family through high school. He says he dreams of becoming a pilot.
Maimona, is a bright working and high achieving student, but she will have no choice but to join her older sister at home, unless she receives assistance from charities like YouMe Support Foundation. Statistics say that families in Vanuatu, a tropical island archipelago, hidden in the North West corner of the South Pacific, live on under $1 a day.
Some villagers from islands in the far north of Vanuatu unsuccessfully attempted to airlift live coconut crabs to Port Vila, the capital, hoping to raise enough money to be able to send their children to school. The only airline servicing the area has refused to take the coconut crabs on board. This is in spite of the villagers having enough money to pay the freight. The airline believes the live crabs pose a threat, as they are not packaged sufficiently.
Many of the people of Vanuatu long to be able to educate their children, but finding the school fees is a never ending nightmare.
Working with the education department and local schools, YouMe Support Foundation plans to assist additional children each year, through an ongoing high school education grant program.
