Granada, Spain---Anglo-Spanish artist, Maureen Booth, has single handedly created an enticing new activity for visitors to this renowned Spanish tourist destination: a vist to her painting and printmaking studio.

“I’ve always felt that travel at its best should be something more than a succession of monuments and beaches,” says Maureen, born in Manchester, U.K., but who has lived in Granada for four decades, taking Spanish nationality in the mid-80’s. “I think it should also relate to your own life and interests. A lot of people love art, and when they travel they would love to see the work of artists from the countries they visit. But there’s no way for these people to make direct contact with the artists. That’s why it occurred to me to open up my studio to visitors from abroad. If it catches on here, it could pave the way for other artists from around the world to do something similar.”

Anyone who has ever visited an artist’s studio knows that the experience, seasoned with the fragrance of turps and linseed oil, is much richer and more personal than that of visiting an art gallery. It includes the opportunity of seeing not only finished paintings and etchings, but the preliminary sketches and work in progress, as well as conversing with the artist.“It’s also a setting which is conducive to selling art, and visitors have the advantage of buying directly from the artist,” says Maureen with a smile.

Maureen’s studio is adjacent to her traditional stone cottage in a bucolic setting at the edge of a village in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, nine kilometers outside the city of Granada. The Rio Genil runs just a stone’s throw beneath the studio and in springtime the nightingales sing day and night in the willows along the river. Visits are by appointment and limited to a maximum of six persons at a time. “My studio is too small to accommodate busloads of people.” says Maureen. Besides, that’s not the atmosphere I want to achieve. I’m happy to receive just a few people a couple of days a week,” she adds, “I also need time to paint and etch!”

The booking procedure for visits to her studio could not be simpler: a phone call to Maureen on 658 953399. She also has a website which offers prospective visitors to Granada a glimpse of what to expect from a visit to the studio of this singularly creative artist: http://granadastudiovisits.com.
