(Free-Press-Release.com) February 3, 2009 -- The Parents Television Council has spoken out about ABC Family's so-called family programming. One show, for instance, is "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." The show is about 15-year-old Amy Juergens, who gets pregnant after having sex for the first time.

Michele MacNeal, who is the head of a branch of the Parents Television Council, said, "It's kind of a misnomer to call ABC Family a family channel. When you call something 'family,' it gives the impression that it's safe for all members of the family, even young children."

But, Anne Sweeney, Disney-ABC Television Group president, attempted to defend what is nothing more than the television network's desire to attract young viewers at any cost.

/> Sweeney said, "The best way to resonate with your audience is to be authentic. And, you're only authentic if you are holding up a mirror to your audience and saying, 'I see you.'"
