ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" is not family-friendly according to The Parents Television Council
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 3, 2009 --
The Parents Television Council has spoken out about ABC Family's so-called family programming. One show, for instance, is "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." The show is about 15-year-old Amy Juergens, who gets pregnant after having sex for the first time.
Michele MacNeal, who is the head of a branch of the Parents Television Council, said, "It's kind of a misnomer to call ABC Family a family channel. When you call something 'family,' it gives the impression that it's safe for all members of the family, even young children."
But, Anne Sweeney, Disney-ABC Television Group president, attempted to defend what is nothing more than the television network's desire to attract young viewers at any cost.

Sweeney said, "The best way to resonate with your audience is to be authentic. And, you're only authentic if you are holding up a mirror to your audience and saying, 'I see you.'"
