Oprah’s weight issues have been well-documented during her public career as a talk show host. She’s talked openly about her weight struggles including a 1988 episode of her show that celebrated her 67 pound weight loss. It was her highest rated show ever.
But within four years she had gained all 67 pounds back – plus a few more. In fact she was at her highest weight ever: 237 pounds.
For the next 17 years Oprah was on a public weight loss roller coaster ride.
Most recently in a candid interview on her web site Oprah opened up about her current weight problems and how a hypothyroid diagnosis added to her weight loss woes.
On her diagnosis, Oprah said her hypothyroidism became a “fat sentence”. She thought, “…my metabolism isn’t working so I might as well just eat whatever I want”. As she did her weight ballooned.
In addition, like a lot of people, she admits to not liking exercise.
“I have said for years how much I disliked it. And it’s true – I really do,” Oprah said in an interview on www.oprah.com.
However she does understand that cardio workouts are key to weight loss.
Like many people Oprah didn’t stick to her workouts because she didn’t enjoy them. Few people succeed at losing weight because they don’t enjoy running on a treadmill or climbing a Stairmaster.
Oprah didn’t have to gain her weight back – she could have found a fun and healthy way to stay fit: ride an electric bike.
Like a lot of people Oprah didn’t know electric bikes like the Optibike provide a heart-pumping cardio workout that’s fun! Oprah and anyone else exercise with an Optibike no matter their age, fitness level or gender.
If Oprah wants to lose weight and keep it off she could look to Keith Felch as an example. In six months Keith lost almost 40 pounds by simply riding his Optibike to work. He also lost 3 inches around his waist, dropped his blood pressure by 20 points and decreased his resting heart rate by 14 percent.
But Oprah should keep in mind that electric bikes aren’t just for men, women love them too. Jane Freese loves riding her Optibike anywhere she can; it fits her mantra, “Enlightened transportation and exhilarating fun.”
Women all around the US are catching on to electric bikes like the Optibike – sales have increased by 67% in the States alone.
Electric bikes are gaining in popularity because they are terrific way for Oprah and anyone else to get healthy and have fun in the process. When Oprah chooses her next cardio workout there are plenty of reasons to think electric like the US-built Optibike.
